While re-installing Visual Studio 2008 looking for something to do, I started reading bodybuilding articles and came across this article about gaining mass and finding out BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). The BMR's formula takes in consideration the age, weight, gender, and height in determining calorie needs for a day. The formula below is specifically for male/female and mine turned out to be 2223.95.
Male
BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year )
Female
BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )
As I look at this number, it is not a whole lot since divided by 6 meals only turns out that I'm only allowed approximately 371 calories, but then again, these meals should be in small portion. While I'm an advocate of eating smaller meals, I usually end up short going only for 5 at the most. Regardless it's not bad but knowing the numbers gives me something to aim for on making adjustments to my diet later on. My goal this day forward is to stick to whole grains and carbohydrates that are rich in fiber and non simple sugar type. As usual, my protein intake will be high but will be varied among chicken, turkey, beef and protein shakes. I like the idea of dining out maybe once or twice a week at the most just so my body doesn't settle for certain foods and to stimulate my metabolism.
