Better planning
Posted on September 7, 2008 21:06 by menace

I've been remodeling my house for quite some time now and it has been the big reason for holding off some tasks. I bought a couple of GMAT review books a few months ago and haven't been able to go through them for this reason. Saw dust was all over (and still is) and things are scattered all over but it looks like everything will go back to normal soon after a month or two. All I did was I took some action for this to happen. While I didn't do most of the work, I acted on things that I've been putting off for which seems like forever. Once I started taking initiative, I was able to do big tasks and got started on it.

Tonight, I bought a calendar/planner that I will be using to list all the things and the actions that I will take on a monthly/daily basis. I will be logging important information and make sure that I don't over-assign tasks to myself. This way, I can prioritize things and put into better perspective what needs action first and so on. I would love to do a lot of things but it seems like a lot of these things are always in conceptual view. I know that I need to do them but I never put them into actual realization to therefore act on them and make them a reality. One thing is, I don't want to over commit myself into things. Over committing myself into tasks means that I've given the tasks a control over me versus the other way around. A simple habitual logging of "goals" on a monthly basis gives me a firm blueprint of what I needed to do and when I needed them done.

I'm a pretty organized person and have done pretty well in organizing my personal to-do lists but there are times when it gets out of control. Sometimes, life just gives you more than you can handle on your plate and it can be difficult to assess priorities and more importantly, how to get started on them. The hardest part of doing, even the simplest task is how to even get started on them. This is when I will write down specific tasks and add a note as to what action(s) I will need to take in order to get me into doing it and reach my objective. Simple enough? We'll see what happens...
